Degenerative Diseases

Could a mix of gelatin and l-cisteine stimulate the collagen and the proteoglicane synthesis?

356 patients that sufferer degenerative diseases in the joints were treated with an oral administration of gelatin and l-cisteine with the intention of evaluating its efficacy and tolerance.

The treatment period was about three and twelve months. In most of the cases the symptoms were clear relieved or even disappeared. This was showed with the reduction of anti steroidals, anti rheumatics just as the frequency reduction of intra articular injections.

The gonatrosis responded in a more remarked way than the coxatrosis.

Secondary effects were not reported and the gastritis tolerance was marked as good. In resume the medicine has been proved to be a useful agent in the treatment of arthritis.

Key Words

Arthritis, enzyme desintegration, gelatin l-cisteine.

Almost everyday the doctor runs up against on these degenerative joint diseases. Nowadays it is known that these deseases are among the main causes of diseases and for that reason, they get an important meaning in the economy. Half of the population at the age of 35 has this disease. From the 55 years old almost every patient has it. For this reason is very important to take on time an effective therapy and with low secondary effects.

Every arthritis starts with a little discomfort in joints; this can be due to many factors because the process of the age, genetic factors, metabolic diseases and acute and chronic traumas that overcharge the motive device.

Generally the arthritis extents silently and during the first years it doesn’t generate any discomfort. It’s until the cartilage has been worn down that comes a limitation in the movements and latter the painful inflammation of the joints capsule.

Within the symptomatic therapies there are found physical measures like: hot treatment, massages and movement therapies. Within the medicines there are found the non steroidal anti rheumatics and corticosteroidals.

Since some years ago, there is a special interest in the application of certain substances because of their gelatin consistency and their efficiency to contribute in the relieving of these diseases.

The cartilage is mainly compound of conducts, a protecting collagen fiber and an internal substance. At this point the collagens are the only living elements that produce the necessary element of the cartilage. The cartilage functionality depends completely on these cells. .

WHICH ARE THE PROCESSES THAT GET TO THE DESINTEGRATION OF A CARTILAGE?

The collagen fiber (approx. 50% of cartilages mass) forms the cartilage’s protection, this makes possible to support the pressure charge with no deforming. The internal substance (approx. 30% of the internal mass), which measures the collagen fibers and from which it serves is compound of proteoglicanes. This substance is responsible of the permeability and elasticity of cartilages.

The proteoglicanes are macromolecules with a high retention of water and they are compound by micro plusarids and protein. The more content of proteoglicanes, the most capacity to hold water, so the content of water of the base substance is bigger. And as a consequence there’s a better proportional diffusion in cartilage and in the condrocytes nutrition.(5)

By the influence of the mentioned factors we get to a limitation in the condrocytes functions. In a sane cartilage tissue it’s found the balance between the collagen synthesis and the proteoglicanes and aslo the enzyme disintegration. When this balance is altered the disintegration is overcharged, the cartilage substance is reduced and its functionality is restricted.

For all these reasons it’s convenient to regulate the balance in the affected cartilage and outside getting a contribution to the cartilage metabolism. To get such thing it is specially offered a combination of gelatin and l-cisteine.

HEALTHY PATIENT AND METHODIC

In the years 1985 and 1986, three hundred and fifty six patients were treated with a mix of l-cisteine and gelatin (l-cisteine 10.8g. gelatin 6.30g.). The mix was presented in a grainy way by Gela Feban. Febena GMBH Coleen. A soupspoon was taken in fasting (approx. 7 mg. to 10 mg.) mixed with yogurt, fruit juices or milk. In table 1, it’s shown the patient diseases division square.

They were possible multiple mentions in such a way, that the total number of indications of the patient list was exceeded, specially in patients with gonatrosis complaining of poliatrosis in their hands.

With respect to the coxatrosis it’s generally associated with the spinal column syndrome, osteocodrosis and spondilosis. Moreover within these patients there are also women with osteoporosis.

The minimum duration of the treatment was three months, in most of the cases it was six or nine and in some case even twelve months (see paragraph 2).

The medication action was clearly proved by subjective declarations of the patients especially in gonatrosis. These criteria were taken as objective criteria but the reduction of intra articular injections was controlled.

RESULTS

In most of the cases, patients qualified the efficiency of the treatment as “very good” or “good”. Only in three cases the patients didn’t give any result. (0.8%)

After the ingestion of this preparation after a period of more than six months almost every gonatrosis were relief, in such a way that the anti rheumatic steroidal could be avoid.

The intra articular injection incidence, which before the experiment was two per month with the preparation of gelatin and l-cisteine, they were after one or two per year. It was former used as a fitopharmancal and condreoprotective preparation for injection, then used as fitopharmacal and 10mg. of prednison.

Also in patients with hand poliatrosis the treatment got good or very good results. Therefore this can be objected in a reduction of the consumption of anti rheumatic and non-steroidals. (Table 2) These positive results support the efficiency of the treatment in patients with coxatrosis and spinal column syndrome.
Here could be compared only a little diminution in the consumption of anti rheumatic.

The patients could detect non-secondary effects. The stomach resistance was good with non-exception. However with the time some patients developed an aversion to the gelatin l-cisteine mixed with yogurt. As a positive secondary effect some patients mentioned the growth and strengthen of nails and hair, which improved considerably.

DISCUSIÓN

Can appropriate constructive substances stop or decrease the cartilage destruction?

Arthritis affected people need first of all a constant treatment. However the chronic develop takes them and non-seldom times to a resignation therapy. This is not justified because now there exist medicine physical therapies that help patients to the better bear of their disease and to live with it.

The sane cartilage composition is known. That’s why there’s the possibility to stop or at least decrease its destruction with appropriate substances in the cartilage metabolism. This isn’t only based in theoretic thinks, but its also shown by the efficiency of the experiment treated here based in gelatin l-cisteine, applied in a great amount of patients.

The improvement in the joints movement is amazing, such as the decrease of pain when moving. They were not only measured by the subjective opinion of the patients, but in an objective way by a decreasing in the use of anti rheumatics and the each time scarcer necessity of the intra articular injections.

As an important data, it is shown a treatment long enough, which due to its action mechanism immediately achieves can’t be waited immediately results. In average the agreement was good. Because the medicine was given individually, which means the composed was taken in all cases. This experiment results agree with former studies.

U. Obershelp (6) proved in a comparative study during a long time a substance based in l-cisteine, A. vitamin and gelatin in 154 patients with condropathy patellae, gonatrosis and youthful spinal column discomforts. By individual physical therapies the pains and movements only could improve significantly.

On the contrary, those groups that were only treated with the preparation alone or combined with physical therapy, a marked relief was observed. With this the author concluded that in many cases the preparation was successful even alone.

B. Goetz also commented that with this substance in the young patients treatment, that suffer condropathy patellae a remarked relief in subjective discomfort could be observed, just as in objective results.

Positive results in experiments with animals talk about the effect in human cartilage. The theoretic basis will be the support of the results by the fact that experiments with animals can prove the conducted exogen., radioactive cysteine in the cartilage joint articulation between vertebral discs just as in the muscular skeleton of mice. (8). This speaks well that even in human beings the active substance of medication described here actually works.

In the same way experiments with animals can prove the cartilage protection and the cartilage marrow extract reconstruction effect, with a muccoplusarids high content. (3)

A special reason keeps results out of second close-up: Many anti rheumatic, non-steroidal anabolic and catabolic show secondary effects in tissue and in cartilage joint metabolism. Some of these medicines have inhibitory consequences, especially in the proteoglicane cell synthesis of the cartilage. (3,4,7)

The corticosteroids conduct to degenerative changes in the condrocytes ultra structure and with this to a limited synthesis execution of the cells.

Under the Dexamethason the animal experiments could prove an increasing lack of psychology in the condrocytes extension process. There are also known the classic secondary effects with anti rheumatic non-steroidal, such as corticosteroids or the continuous problematic with the intra muscular injections.

Precisely in a long therapy like the arthritis treatment, its values consist in free secondary effects final. In this sense the mentioned prepared is presented to have an alternative, which means a complementary therapy. So even in well based cases the temporal application of the anti rheumatic (corticosteroides) won’t be an impediment.

CONCLUSIONS

The use of the described mixes (gelatin, l-cisteine) in arthritic patients was presented with no problems and exceptionally efficient in most of the cases, overall in the knee and in fingers arthritic joints. It practically do not causes secondary effects, it’s well accepted by patients, it takes to a notably relief in discomforts and at the same time to a drastic reduction in medicines, even the amount of injections can be reduced to the minimum. Due to this mechanism action, it must be bear in mind that a joint upset can be borne or at least notably reduced. For this reason this substance must be applied the most on time possible.
